Stanford developed this evidence-based, single-session pain class that rapidly equips pain warriors with effective pain management skills. The Research says…“Empowered Relief” is a single two-hour pain management class that may offer months-long relief from chronic low back pain, according to a clinical trial published online Aug. 16, 2021, by JAMA Network Open.

The trial involved 263 adults with chronic low back pain that lasted at least six months. Everyone was placed randomly into one of three groups: 87 people took a pain relief skills class (called "empowered relief"), 88 had cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for chronic pain, and 88 had back pain education.Empowered relief consisted of a single-session, two-hour class. It covered areas such as pain neuroscience education and CBT skills like identifying distressing thoughts, cognitive reframing (shifting your mindset to look at a situation differently), relaxation response, and self-soothing techniques.The single-session empowered relief class was as effective as the eight CBT sessions in reducing pain, improving sleep, and lowering depression and anxiety. The effect also lasted for three months.

Who am I?

Hi, I’m Christie Stuart. I’m a Registered Nurse of many years and now a Board Certified Nurse Coach.

I have worked more than a decade in Interventional Pain Management and it is so rewarding to see people get better but I also see many who don’t get relief...that’s why I’m here.

What is included in this mini-course?

  • This mini-course will be taught through Zoom in an online, live format. This helps folks who have chronic pain to be comfortable in their own environment and it is OK to stand up, walk around or lie down if needed.

  • It is a highly interactive class with time for questions so that I can make sure you are engaged and understanding the new concepts.

  • The class size is limited so that I can find time to help each of you as needed.

  • You will participate in a short, relaxation exercise during the “Empowered Relief” course.

  • You may invite one family member to support you during the class. This is beneficial to have someone who will help you use the information to help you gain the transformation in your pain experience.

FAQ'S

I have tried many things to help my pain. How do I know this will help me?

I’m sorry that you have been through so much and you are still suffering but I suspect most of the things you have tried have been targeting the body.  Have you tried any treatments that target the brain?  Perhaps it's time to try something new. 

I don’t understand how my brain is causing my pain? 

Pain is both a physical and an emotional sensation.  Traditionally medicine treats the body but this is a more holistic approach to treat the mind and the body together.

How will just 2 hours help my pain?

The class is educational and provides you with new tools to help you solve your pain but of course it is your brain and you will need to do the work consistently to get the best results.

What if I can't attend LIVE?

Unfortunately, there will be no replay available. Stanford requires me to teach the class live at this time.
